Berlin attacker had ties to Salafist preacher linked to Islamic State — new details

Berlin attacker Abdul Ballout had been in contact since at least 2024 with a Salafist preacher who had moved from Germany to Mauritania, according to Der Spiegel. The preacher encouraged Ballout to travel there, reportedly to join the Islamic State. A Polish woman was killed in the attack.
