Polish parliament passes surveillance oversight law, critics call it a missed opportunity

The Polish Sejm passed a law on 31 July strengthening judicial oversight of intelligence services' covert surveillance operations. Critics, including Wojciech Klicki from the Panoptykon Foundation, called it a "wasted opportunity," noting that a key demand was dropped: people subjected to unjustified surveillance will still not be notified after the fact. Klicki warned that lawmakers failed to consider what could happen if the political situation changes after 2027.
