Russian state hackers exploit max-severity Exchange Server flaw to backdoor systems
Russian state-linked hacking group TA488, also tracked as Laundry Bear and Void Blizzard, is actively exploiting a maximum-severity vulnerability in Microsoft Exchange Server to backdoor unpatched machines. Victims need only open an email in Outlook Web Access (OWA) for malware to be installed and credentials stolen. Security firm Proofpoint linked the group to previous attacks exploiting a zero-day in Zimbra's email service.
