Red heat alerts hit Rome and Florence as Italy swelters

Italy is in the grip of a severe heatwave, with red weather alerts in force on Friday in major cities including Rome, Florence and Turin. The alerts are set to expand to more cities on Saturday. The extreme heat combined with drought is also causing serious damage to farmers.
