London to spend £1.7bn cleaning up its rivers and waterways
London Mayor Sadiq Khan launched the Clean Rivers and Waterways programme, calling the state of the city's rivers the result of "decades of neglect." Water company Thames Water has been directed to spend £1.7 billion over the next five years to reduce pollution. Khan identified Thames Water as one of the chief parties responsible for the poor condition of the capital's waterways.
