49,000 migrants reach Spain's Ceuta in 24 hours — at least 18 dead crossing

Around 49,000 migrants crossed from Morocco into Spain's Ceuta within a single 24-hour period, many swimming across and spending hours in the water. At least 18 people died during the crossing. The number of arrivals exceeds half the total population of the enclave.
