Over half of evacuees return home as French wildfire west of Bordeaux recedes

More than half of the 220,000 people evacuated due to a massive wildfire west of Bordeaux were allowed to return home as conditions improved. The blaze destroyed more than 200 homes, burned through 42,000 hectares and killed two firefighters. French crews continue to battle the fire, but authorities described the day as "optimistic."
