United Russia plans to downplay the war before Duma elections as it grows unpopular
United Russia is preparing a strategy for September's State Duma elections centred on downplaying the war in Ukraine, which has become increasingly unpopular among Russians. Political scientist Natalia Shavshukova says the party, once a symbol of stability and prosperity, now embodies "aggressive, hysterical mobilisation of society for war without clear reason". Putin's political position is becoming increasingly difficult as the conflict drags on.
