Fossil footprints from Kenya reveal Paranthropus boisei was taller than thought

An international team of paleoanthropologists analysed fossilised footprints from the Ileret site on Lake Turkana in northern Kenya, dated to approximately 1.4 million years ago. Published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the study shows that Paranthropus boisei was larger than previously thought and walked upright on two legs. Until now, the species was known mainly from skull fossils, leaving its body size and movement largely a mystery.
