Rare EF3 tornado carves 12-mile path of destruction across Wisconsin

A rare EF3 tornado struck north-east Wisconsin on Monday, lasting 26 minutes and cutting a 12-mile path of destruction through western parts of Appleton and Menasha before dissipating over Lake Winnebago. The US National Weather Service rated it EF3, making it the fourth such tornado to hit Wisconsin this year — the highest total for the state since 1984. The event was accompanied by unusual atmospheric phenomena including a meteotsunami.
