After a century of searching, astronomers image Betelgeuse's companion star
Astronomers have for the first time captured an image of the companion star orbiting Betelgeuse, the bright red supergiant in the constellation Orion located roughly 400–550 light-years from Earth. Betelgeuse contains about 14 solar masses and is no more than 10 million years old, meaning it evolved rapidly and will eventually explode as a supernova within the next 100,000 years. The search for its companion lasted nearly a century.
