Israel's alert system: civilians get seconds to reach shelter when sirens sound
Israel's civil warning system gives residents as little as a few seconds near the Gaza border to up to about 90 seconds in Tel Aviv or Haifa to reach safety. When activated, the alert simultaneously triggers sirens, phone vibrations, radio interruptions and a red bar on TV screens. The system is considered one of the most advanced civilian warning networks in the world.
