Pentagon neglected long-war planning for decades — now the US faces an ammunition shortage
John Ferrari, an analyst at the American Enterprise Institute and former Pentagon official, warns that US ammunition stockpiles are dangerously low and the capacity to replenish them is nearly non-existent. For two decades, the Pentagon planned only for short, single-front wars. Ferrari told Newsweek this is not even the biggest problem facing the Trump administration in the current conflict.
