CIEL report: governments knew about fossil fuel climate damage since mid-20th century
A report by the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL) reveals that governments of the US, Canada, the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Australia, Norway and Russia were aware at least since the mid-20th century that burning fossil fuels poses a climate threat. Major energy companies were also found to have had similar knowledge. Experts say the findings could be significant in legal proceedings on climate liability.
