Cameras on whale sharks reveal previously undocumented deep-water feeding methods

Scientists have for the first time attached cameras to the backs of whale sharks, capturing footage of feeding behaviours never previously documented. The videos show the sharks filtering food while diving, gliding downward with open mouths, ascending with mouths still open, and cruising just above the seafloor. Slow, sustained underwater feeding turned out to be among the most common activities observed, revealing the animals spend far more time feeding below the surface than previously thought.
