Amazon Files to Launch 5,105 Satellites for New Mobile Network

Amazon has filed an application with the FCC to deploy a constellation of 5,105 low Earth orbit satellites under its Amazon Leo Direct-to-Device project, aiming to support voice, data, messaging, emergency services and IoT connectivity. The move follows Amazon's merger with satellite telecom company Globalstar, whose infrastructure and global licences Amazon has acquired. Over 390 Amazon Leo satellites are already in orbit, enabling early service launches ahead of the full deployment.
