Russians Rush to Withdraw Cash as Bank of Russia Steps In to Stabilise Banks
Russians are withdrawing funds from bank deposits on a massive scale and converting them to cash. The record outflow of roubles has forced the Bank of Russia to increase liquidity support for the banking sector. Sberbank blamed the panic on politicians who have been warning customers about the possible confiscation of deposits.
