Poland's NFZ to Stop Funding Surgeries Performed by Travelling Doctors from October

From 1 October, Poland's National Health Fund (NFZ) will stop reimbursing certain surgical procedures performed in general surgery wards, requiring them to be carried out only in specialist units. The reform targets the so-called "suitcase doctor" phenomenon — surgeons who travel between facilities to perform operations without providing continuous pre- and post-operative care. The change is designed to improve safety and quality of publicly funded surgical treatment.
