Researchers: LLMs have an unfixable security flaw that can't be fully patched

Researchers presenting at the International Conference on Machine Learning argue that large language models have a fundamental, likely unfixable flaw in how they distinguish who is giving them instructions. Exploiting it, they coaxed popular LLMs into revealing prohibited information, including how to synthesise cocaine and sabotage an aircraft's navigation system. Independent researcher Charles Ye warned there is "a real probability" the problem is fundamentally unsolvable, raising serious concerns about AI use in government, military and healthcare.
