FIFA faces fierce backlash over plan to sell World Cup commercial rights stake
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) accused FIFA of "undermining the very foundations of football" by unilaterally agreeing to sell a 20% stake in a new company controlling the commercial rights to all global tournaments to Joshua Kushner's Thrive Capital. AFC president Salman bin Ibrahim al-Khalifa wrote to all 47 member associations condemning the move. UEFA held an emergency meeting on Thursday, and FIFA said it aims to raise $4.2 billion from minority investors in the deal.
