Magnitude-6.8 quake damages Kumamoto Castle — casualties reported

A magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck the Japanese island of Kyushu on Tuesday at around 4:30 p.m. local time. The Aeon Mall shopping centre in Kumamoto collapsed, killing at least several people and leaving dozens missing under the rubble. The historic Kumamoto Castle partially collapsed for the second time this century, and sections of the island's main motorway were also destroyed.
