NSW to send mental health nurses instead of police to some psychiatric emergencies

New South Wales announced a statewide reform in which mental health specialists will triage triple-zero emergency calls 24/7, sending nurses rather than police to some psychiatric crises. The change follows multiple deaths during police interventions in mental health emergencies. Ministers Rose Jackson and Yasmin Catley made the announcement on Thursday, though not all elements will operate around the clock or cover the entire state.
