Vienna removed from UNESCO's endangered heritage list
At this year's UNESCO World Heritage Committee session in Pusan, South Korea, a decision was made to remove Vienna's historic city centre from the List of World Heritage in Danger. Being placed on that list signals a threat to a site's outstanding universal value, so the removal is considered positive news for the Austrian capital. Vienna had been listed due to development plans within its historic centre that UNESCO deemed incompatible with its protected status.
