"Blind stacking" algorithm spots invisible debris in geostationary orbit
Researchers led by James Blake have published a paper in the Journal of Astronautical Sciences describing a technique called "blind stacking" that detects tiny debris fragments in geostationary orbit (GEO) invisible to conventional sensors. GEO hosts critical GPS, weather and communications satellites, making debris a serious threat. The algorithm stacks faint signals to reveal objects that standard surveys miss entirely.
