Magnetic white dwarfs hide planetary debris, leading scientists to undercount it
New research shows that white dwarfs consume far more planetary debris than previously estimated. Magnetic fields in some white dwarfs concentrate metallic debris near the stars' poles, where it is harder to detect, causing scientists to undercount how widespread these debris disks are. Researchers are now working to correct existing estimates of planetary debris distribution around white dwarfs.
