French wildfires devastate wildlife — deer, hedgehogs and other animals perish

Wildfires continuing to burn across southwest France are causing mass casualties among wild animals, including deer and hedgehogs. Many animals are unable to outrun the flames, while survivors are left without food or water. Firefighters and volunteers are rescuing animals where possible, but the scale of the devastation is vast.
