Myanmar sentences nine activists to up to 37 years for election boycott protest
Courts in Myanmar have sentenced nine activists to up to 37 years in prison for participating in a protest against last December's elections, according to an activist group. The protests were directed against elections organised by the military junta that has ruled the country since its coup. The sentences are among the harshest handed down for political dissent in recent months.
