Raising tax-free allowance to 60,000 zł would cost 58bn zł a year, economists say Poland can't afford it
Poland's Ministry of Finance has calculated that raising the tax-free allowance to 60,000 zł and indexing the second tax threshold would cost the state budget 58 billion zł in 2027 alone. Economists consulted on the matter agree that Poland cannot afford such a change. Mariusz Materna of Bank Millennium argues that the entire tax system needs a fundamental overhaul, as successive governments have only made it worse.
