Plasmonic metamaterial time crystal achieves breakthrough in light modulation

Researchers demonstrated a plasmonic metamaterial driven at terahertz frequencies that achieves strong, ultrafast temporal modulation and transitions into the photonic time crystal regime with reduced plasmonic losses. The result represents a significant advance in controlling light at ultrafast timescales. The study was published in Nature on 29 July 2026.
