Over 2,000 human centromeres sequenced in landmark evolution study
Researchers have for the first time fully sequenced more than 2,000 centromeres from genetically diverse individuals, revealing their structures and elevated mutation rates. The findings shed new light on the evolution of these critical genomic regions, which are essential for proper chromosome segregation. The study was published in Nature.
