"Piezochiral effect" lets mechanical strain control material chirality

Researchers have introduced the "piezochiral effect," a new strain-responsive phenomenon in which mechanical strain controls the chirality of a material, joining piezoelectricity and piezomagnetism in the family of strain-responsive functionalities. Potential future applications include photonics, spintronics, biosensing and quantum information processing.
