Elk Attack People Far More Often Than Bears in Canadian National Parks

A study analysing nearly 3,000 aggressive wildlife encounters in Canadian national parks found that elk and other large ungulates were responsible for more than half of all incidents — far outpacing grizzly bears. Tourists tend to overestimate the danger from predators while underestimating the risk posed by large herbivores. The findings are intended to improve visitor safety education in national parks.
