Chandra telescope detects 36-million-degree 'breath' of an ancient black hole

NASA's Chandra X-ray telescope has detected scorching gas expelled by a quasar that existed 2.1 billion years after the Big Bang, with temperatures reaching 36 million degrees Fahrenheit. The "cosmic exhaust" extends roughly 100,000 light-years around the quasar at the heart of proto-cluster MQN01. Scientists say this marks the first time the formation of galactic cluster atmospheres — known as the intracluster medium — has been observed in real cosmic history.
