Pre-Christian cross found among ruins of Stary Książ castle
During excavations at Stary Książ castle near Wałbrzych, archaeologists led by Krzysztof Jaworski of the University of Wrocław unearthed a metal cross predating Poland's baptism in 966 AD. The find disproved the long-held theory that the site was a 19th-century romantic ruin built by architect Christian Wilhelm Tischbein purely for aesthetic purposes. Excavations began in March 1991 and confirmed the castle sits on the foundations of an authentic early medieval stronghold.
