PiS drops Witek as candidate for Deputy Speaker of the Sejm
Elżbieta Witek, former Deputy Prime Minister and Speaker of the Sejm, has been dropped as PiS's candidate for Deputy Speaker of parliament. Party leader Mariusz Błaszczak claimed it was her own decision, but online commentators and observers are sceptical, noting she had been promised the role for nearly three years. Sources within PiS say she retains a strong position close to party leader Jarosław Kaczyński but is losing ground locally due to the party's internal split.
