Russia and Taliban sign military pact — Moscow gains foothold in Asia cheaply
On 27 May, Russia and Taliban-governed Afghanistan signed a military-technical cooperation agreement. The partnership offers Moscow few material benefits but allows the Kremlin to fill a geopolitical niche in Asia that few other powers were willing to enter.
