Vienna's historic centre removed from UNESCO's endangered heritage list

UNESCO's committee has decided to remove Vienna's historic city centre from its list of endangered World Heritage sites, where it had been placed in 2017. The organisation had originally warned that planned urban development, including a building on the historic Heumarkt street, threatened the area's historic character. The committee has now concluded that the danger has passed and urgent protective measures are no longer needed.
