Japan Earthquake: 5 Dead, 9 Missing After 6.8-Magnitude Quake in Kyushu
A 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck Kumamoto prefecture on Japan's southern Kyushu island at 4:27 pm local time on Tuesday, registering a maximum 7 on Japan's shindo intensity scale. At least five people were killed, nine are missing, and hundreds were injured. Tens of thousands lost power and water supplies. The military mobilised thousands of personnel to assist rescue teams searching amid ongoing aftershocks.
