Nuclear submarine USS Georgia retires after 42+ years of service

The nuclear-powered guided missile submarine USS Georgia returned to its homeport of Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia, on July 27 for the last time, ahead of its official inactivation on July 31. The vessel has served for more than 42 years and is one of four Ohio-class SSGNs in the US Navy. All four of these submarines are scheduled to leave service before the end of the decade.
