Dwarf Galaxy DF9 Found Devoid of Dark Matter in Cosmic String of 12

Astronomers have found that DF9, a dwarf galaxy in a string of twelve small galaxies, appears to be almost entirely free of dark matter — a substance that makes up roughly 85% of all matter in the cosmos. The study, published June 16 in The Astrophysical Journal, identifies DF9 as one of three such dark-matter-deficient galaxies in the same cosmic string. Scientists say violent galactic collisions may be responsible for stripping dark matter away from visible matter.
