Meta quits RE100 green energy pledge after funding multiple gas power plants

Meta has confirmed its withdrawal from RE100, a corporate renewable energy initiative whose 444 members include Apple, Google and Microsoft, after funding multiple natural gas power plants over the past year. The company had previously committed to running all operations on renewables by 2020, but the surging power demands of its AI data centres prompted it to abandon that pledge. Meta says it remains committed to renewable energy in principle, but offers no replacement target.
