Scientists discover contagious melanoma spreading between freshwater catfish
Researchers have discovered a transmissible melanoma in freshwater catfish living in a lake, with the skin cancer spreading between individual fish. The finding raises questions about the disease's origin, mode of transmission and its broader impact on the catfish population. Contagious cancers are extremely rare; previously documented cases include Tasmanian devils and dogs.
