Wildfires ravaged Europe during the mass extinction at the end of the Triassic
A study published in Nature shows that massive wildfires swept across continental expanses of ferns during the mass extinction event at the Triassic–Jurassic boundary. The infernos coincided with the die-off of both land and sea animals, suggesting fire played a significant role in the extinction.
