Germany demands EU budget cuts, opposes what it calls "abstractly high" spending
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz met Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin in Dublin on Tuesday to urge the Irish Council Presidency to cut spending in the EU's new multi-annual budget. Berlin argues the EU cannot afford the level of expenditure currently proposed.
