Wizards of the Coast president steps down after two years as Hasbro writes off $56m on cancelled games

John Hight, president of Wizards of the Coast — the company behind Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering — is stepping down on September 1, just two years after taking the role in August 2024. His tenure was marked by the transition to D&D 5.5 edition and a heavy push on the Universes Beyond crossover initiative in Magic: The Gathering, including a well-received Lord of the Rings collaboration. Parent company Hasbro has written off $56 million on cancelled game projects, and a search for Hight's replacement is already underway.
