Queen's scent shapes naked mole rat reproductive hierarchy

A study published in Nature has found that a queen-associated chemical signal plays a key role in maintaining the reproductive hierarchy of naked mole rat colonies. In these rodent societies, only a single breeding queen reproduces, and the scent she produces appears to enforce this structure among the rest of the colony.
