Korean researchers develop programmable photonic chip that controls signal delay without hardware swap

Korean researchers have described a programmable photonic circuit capable of adjusting the delay, spectrum and frequency of a light signal without replacing any hardware components. While light is ideal for transporting data — as demonstrated by fibre optics — its enormous speed makes signal synchronisation and brief storage difficult. The new chip is designed to address those challenges and could be significant for the future of high-speed networks and photonic computing.
