GSK cuts jobs in £1.9bn savings drive, invests £400m in new Cambridge R&D hub
British drugmaker GSK announced sweeping job cuts as part of a £1.9bn cost-cutting programme, funding a £400m investment in UK life sciences over three years. More than 1,000 scientists will be relocated to a new R&D centre on the Cambridge biomedical campus. The company will close its Stevenage, Hertfordshire R&D site by 2029, with some staff moving to upgraded labs in nearby Ware. The moves are aimed at accelerating drug development under GSK's new chief executive.
