Misfolded insulin proteins may silently drive diabetes progression

Researchers found that insulin-producing cells in the pancreas rely on a team of helper proteins to keep insulin production functioning correctly. When one key partner protein was absent, damaged insulin molecules accumulated and overall production declined. Strengthening this protective system could offer a new therapeutic approach to slow diabetes progression.
