Italy joins EU's SAFE programme and requests €14.9 bn

Italy will join the EU's SAFE defence programme and apply for €14.9 billion in support, Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani announced. The decision came after a domestic political debate in Rome. The SAFE programme is designed to fund military equipment purchases and boost the defence capabilities of EU member states.
